Riley Longworth - Director

Riley grew up in Frankston, right against a beach he couldn’t surf and dancing between more than several part time jobs instead of focusing on school. Any money he earned he took to my local video store and burned on as many overnighters he could afford. Anything he had left scored the requisite popcorn to see him through until next week.

Raised on a diet of action and horror films, he was constantly in awe of fights and guts getting sprayed across the screen, desperately trying to figure out how they filmed it. Leaving high school he knew he wanted to be in the film industry in any capacity, and with no money to afford a camera he committed to becoming a screenwriter. Pens are pretty cheap these days.

Going to VCA gave him the confidence to call himself a writer at parties, and working in the industry gave him perspective on how to showcase his writing. He learned more about his favourite movies from toes to nose working as a script assessor for production companies XYZ, Village Roadshow, and Zero Gravity Management.

To this day he’s still watching a lot of movies, and still buying a lot of pens.

You Can’t Escape an Aussie Boy is Riley’s directorial debut.
